Timings as follows: 1. 0:00 2. 1:03 3. 2:22 4. 3:58 5. 5:00 6. 6:19 These pieces are by the Brazilian composer Nilson Lombardi (1926-2008) and were composed in the late 1960s and early 1970s. They all have the same structure: a simple theme is stated and then repeated with minimal variation to bring the piece to a close. The sequence is arranged so that the pieces become progressively more difficult, with the first two pitched at elementary learners, and the final two pieces at about grade 5-6. The third piece - which I recorded first - is particularly unusual for its use of a sequence of chromatic falling sevenths in the left hand. The second and fifth pieces both have inspired melodic writing, while the first and fourth have a pronouncedly child-like character, reminiscent of playground chants.
