Date filmed: Thursday the 18th of January 2024 Video filmed at 14:16 Route: The Kent Coast Line Sandwich is the closest station Crossing type: Manually Controlled Barrier crossing (MCB) Location: Dover Road, Sandwich Trains featured: 395 019 (Southeastern) - 1:44 1L43 Ramsgate ➡ St. Pancras International (Via Sandwich and Dover) | On-time A level crossing on one of the busier main roads into the Cinque Port town of Sandwich on the coast of Kent. Remarkably, not only do pulsing mechanical bells still remain, but clattering 'Drive-up, Drive-down' barriers, manufactured by Godwin Warren Engineering and the last of their kind in the South East, also still remain with practically zero sign of any impending renewal! The level crossing is controlled from the signal box next to it, working 'Absolute Block' signalling either way, and it seems as though one extra bell may be sounding nowadays compared to a few years back, although the clattering barriers still make quite a lot more noise than they do. A single Class 395 'Javelin' can be seen slowing down into the nearby station in this video, touring the Kent Coast on a run from Ramsgate before zooming towards London St. Pancras International at up to 140mph on High Speed One after Ashford International - a real 'Javelin Throw'.
