Joanne Hughes George Julian Graham Martin Jo Wright It’s widely agreed that NHS organisations need to be open about the quality of care they provide and learn from problems when things go wrong. The last 10 years have seen many government initiatives designed to increase openness in NHS organisations, often focused on changing their cultures. But cultural change is hard work, and often takes a long time. This session will look at the importance of creating open cultures in the NHS, from the perspective of patients, carers and staff, examine the degree to which new government policies have been successful in generating change, and consider what organisations, staff, patients and carers need to do to create a more open NHS.
