India Storm Alert - New tropical cyclone possible

Amongst a quiet tropics has risen a new potential threat along the western coast of India. The system has started producing large amounts of convective thunderstorms overnight, and is expected to track up the coast of western India in the coming days. The storms are located near Karnataka province this morning, and will slink up the coast to Mumbai and then to Gujarat for a potential landfall later this week or at the weekend. However, models remain uncertain about the system developing, with only the GFS fully on board. Nonetheless, other models are showing signs of a tropical signal in the area, coupled with the impressive convective blow-ups at present, lead us to giving a 40% chance of development. Elsewhere, an area of interest could develop later this week or at the weekend in the Eastern Pacific, with a hurricane possible next week. Impacts to land are expected to be minimal as the system passes clearly south of Mexico.
