© CLAUDIO MORTINI™◊ L'abbazia di San Salvatore di Montecorona, a 4 chilometri da Umbertide (PG) ai piedi dell'omonimo colle, sarebbe stata fondata da San Romualdo nel 1008, qualche anno prima della fondazione dell'eremo di Camaldoli. Nel 1050 il monastero fu retto da San Pier Damiani. I monaci si dedicavano al lavoro individuale e comunitario, privilegiando quello agricolo e artigianale. L'antica cripta seminterrata è di notevole valore artistico e culturale; è composta di un vasto locale diviso in cinque navate, con colonne di vari stili che sorreggono le basse volte. La chiesa superiore, a tre navate, fu consacrata nel 1105; conserva resti di affreschi ed un coro ligneo di buona fattura. Interessante il campanile a pianta ottagonale e circolare, forse anticamente torre di difesa, con l´orologio recentemente restaurato. ___________ The Abbey of San Salvatore Montecorona, 4 kilometers from Umbertide (PG) at the foot of the hill, was founded by San Romualdo in 1008, some years before the foundation of the hermitage of Camaldoli.
