Two Little Treasures… Perhaps Shadow sensed Jackie needed one more break before she laid her 2nd egg on Monday afternoon, so he came to the nest ready to assist. It took her a minute, but then she rose up, flew out and came back twenty minutes later. Shadow softly requested more time, but Jackie hopped in from the high perch and he flew off. Shortly after, she showed all the signs of another egg on the way. She laid the 2nd egg and hovered over it to let it cool off. Then she slowly moved aside to show the world their two precious eggs! At sunset, she pancaked over her two little treasures, tucking them in for the night. Since Shadow missed the egg welcome party, he made up for it by reporting bright and early for Daddy duty the next morning. But before his meet and greet with the new egg, Jackie called him and he went to meet her first…for another quick mating session! He didn't waste any time afterward and was at the nest two minutes later. He nuzzled down on the eggs and stayed with them almost two hours before Jackie called him away one more time and mating vocals were heard again. Before returning, they went shopping for some extra fluff and each brought in a new bundle. Shadow decided perhaps just one more pile was needed so away he went. He dropped off a third small bundle while Jackie laid down and spread it around, pulling it in around herself with her beak. Lunch time arrived and Jackie headed out, but she must have just missed Shadow coming in from the lake with his big tasty lunch fish. He had a nice peaceful meal, maybe one of his last for a while, as he gobbled it down tail and all. As he ate, the two eggs bathed in the warm sun together on top of the new fluff. Shadow cleaned up any leftover evidence of his meal before he shimmied down on the eggs. He spent another lengthy afternoon shift on the nest and he seemed very comfortable when Jackie landed on the high perch for her final shift of the day. Just before Shadow headed out, chortles were exchanged between the two (perhaps something about a lunch fish?) but it was in Eaglish again so we just don't know! Pull up a perch and join us!
