According to a recent study carried out by the postpartum depression organisation https://www.postpartumdepression.org/ 1 in 7 women may experience some form of the 'baby blues' or postpartum depression in the year after giving birth. This happened to me. Becoming a mum is the single biggest challenge and change we face as a woman. You don’t need to make excuses for what you are feeling and there is no apology to make either to yourself, or to others. Take reassurance that you are not alone. Every mum experiences feelings of being lost and confused, tired and helpless. You are still the same person you were before giving birth. Your identity has not changed. It may take time to find your way in your role as a mother, but that's ok, and normal. It will take time for you and your baby to get to know each other, it doesn't need to all be at once. Be gentle and forgiving to yourself. Practice compassion for yourself. Your story moves forward.
