Cold start knocking on your Mercedes AMG 6.2–6.3 V8 M156/M159? Camshaft synchronization errors and suspicious cam phasers (VVT)? In the AMG M156/M159 6.2–6.3 V8 engines the locking mechanism inside the cam phasers wears out very often. The lock bore, which should be cylindrical, becomes oval, the phaser starts to “float” on start-up, you hear loud knocking on a cold engine and the ECU logs camshaft synchronization errors. Worn sealing rings in the VVT control unit also reduce oil pressure in the phasers and speed up the wear of the locking mechanism. Instead of buying a full set of new OEM cam phasers or gambling on cheap Chinese replacements, we designed a VVT repair kit for Mercedes AMG M156/M159 under the MEHENKER brand.
