Because the WJ V is a large, co-normed battery of cognitive and academic tests, it offers interpretive possibilities that are not possible in most other batteries. We can evaluate how unusual a set of academic scores are given a set of cognitive scores. We can identify outlier scores that may need follow-up testing. We can construct more accurate confidence intervals that are informed by all the scores available. We can estimate the probability that a set of true scores are above or below diagnostic thresholds (e.g., for learning disability identification). These techniques can be implemented with freely available apps online.
