A Look Inside The Fortification of York Redoubt | Uncovering Canada's Past【4K】

Overlooking the entrance to Halifax Harbour sits a fortification that has helped protect the port since the late 1700s. York redoubt was Part of the formidable Halifax Defense Complex, and was constructed in 1793 just as war broke out between Britain and France. A Reboubt is a fort system usually consisting of an enclosed defensive emplacement outside a larger fort. It is meant to protect soldiers outside the main defensive line. The word means "a place of retreat". It was key in the defence of Halifax Harbour in the 19th and 20th centuries and a command centre during World War II. Today you can explore and learn about its role in protecting Canada.
