Venice, Los Angeles – Friday, November 15, 2024 — During the weekly cleanup operation in Venice, Los Angeles Park Rangers, LAPD officers, and sanitation workers encountered homeless individuals camping at Venice Beach. The Park Rangers informed the campers that they needed to move their belongings away from the beach or risk having them discarded. The campers complied, allowing the cleanup crew to continue addressing other encampments along the beachfront. An incident occurred during the cleanup involving Daisy, known in the community as the Venice Healer, and a newcomer named Morgan. Daisy accused Morgan of harassment and called Los Angeles Police Officers to intervene. Officers spoke with Morgan and instructed her to stay away from Daisy. Additionally, Daisy filed a formal harassment report with the police before the situation was resolved and the cleanup resumed. The coordinated cleanup effort, aimed at maintaining public safety and cleanliness, covered the beach and surrounding areas. Led by Los Angeles Park Rangers with support from the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, LA County Beaches and Harbors, the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, and Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., the initiative focused on clearing encampments and ensuring sanitary conditions along the beachfront. Park Rangers were present to enforce Los Angeles Municipal Code 63.44, which prohibits tents and camping structures in city parks. No citations were issued, highlighting the city’s compassionate approach to managing public spaces and addressing homelessness. A representative from Councilwoman Traci Park’s office, who frequently supports these cleanup efforts, was also in attendance. The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) provided vital support, including food, water, and hygiene kits during the cleanup.
