The newly released film - Homebound - directed by Neeraj Gheywan, and starring Ishaan Khattar, Vishal Jethwa, and some excellent supporting actors particularly Shalini Vatsa, released in India on September 26, after it had already created a wave across film festivals. It is now India’s official entry for the Oscars. The film is based on an article written by Basharat Peer for New York Times in 2020. He worked on this story in June 2020, during the first COVID lockdown, when the world was locked indoors, and he undertook a journey to Devari in Uttar Pradesh to meet the families of two friends - Saiyub and Amrit. This story - titled: A Friendship, a Pandemic and a Death Beside the Highway explored the lives of the two friends after a picture of Amrit lying almost lifeless on Saiyub’s lap by the side of a highway went viral across social media. Basharat Peer is a Contributing Editor at Time magazine. He has been an editor at The New York Times and Foreign Affairs. He is the author of Curfewed Night and also A Question of Order: India, Turkey and the Return of Strongmen. On this podcast, Basharat Peer speaks to The Migration Story's founder Roli Srivastava on the connection he established with Saiyub and Amrit's families, what Homebound means to them and the unexpected ways in which stories travel. #homebound #ishaankhatter #neerajghaywan #basharatpeer #migrantworkers #covid19 #lockdown #podcast #reversemigration #bollywood #jahnavikapoor
