This is RENO AIR RACING 99, a very pivotal year. Some of the course has been changed and many of the racers are not happy. Dennis Sanders of Sanders Air Racing will explain it. Race #10 CRITICAL MASS returns with a new engine and some airframe mods. Race #77 RARE BEAR returns with a new engine but goes out with a master rod bearing failure. Race #5 VOODOO has a traumatic engine failure with the prop governor resulting in a runaway prop. With a leased engine from Race Team #4 and another prop they worked all through the night and just made qualifying for the race with only 2 minutes left. On a very sad note, we lost Gary Levitz in Race # 38 MISS ASHLEY 11 on Saturday when he lost a wing just after the #1 pylon going over the hill, crashing into Lemon Valley. The race went on.
