Changi Airport Terminal 2 is closing tomorrow for 18 months as part of a major renovation. When it opens, it will be unrecognisable to us. Things move so quickly in Singapore. It is important to have this virtual tour as a document to our past. I think I must have seen many renovations of Terminal 2 since it first opened. I remember that the viewing gallery on the 2nd floor is very different from what it was. I filmed this during day 10 of our Singapore Circuit Breaker. There was nearly no one in the Terminal. Everything is so quiet, my microphone hardly picked up any sound. Super surreal. The circuit breaker is now extended till June 1, 2020. This gives me more time to film more places during this unreal period of global history. Terminal 2 opened on 22 November 1990 as part of Phase II in the original airport masterplan. Deploying a linear configuration parallel to the runways, it is located adjacent to Terminal 1 towards the south, and heralded the opening of the original skytrain system linking the two terminals via the landside. The fourth storey of the terminal houses the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore. In addition Terminal 2 houses the offices of the Air Accident Investigation Bureau of Singapore and Changi Airport Group. On 15 July 2013, Changi Airport unveiled its latest themed garden that boasts a dramatic display of vibrant colours and interactive technology – a first for Changi Airport, which has pioneered the concept of airport gardens since its opening in 1981. The new ‘Enchanted Garden’ – Changi Airport’s fifth themed garden – takes pride in the spot where the Fern Garden once stood. It is open, free of charge, to passengers round-the-clock. An interactive and immersive experience, the Enchanted Garden “magically” comes to life with sight and sound, captivating visitors as they weave through the garden. Motion sensors trigger sounds of nature and blooming flowers while fibre-optic and LED lighting, embedded in the flooring, form a fascinating carpet of sparkling lights. There is also a pond containing Archerfish and Koi. https://www.businesstraveller.com/bus... 21 Jan 2020 by Jackie Chen Changi Airport’s Terminal 2 (T2) will undergo expansion and renovation works after the upcoming Chinese New Year holidays. According to Changi Airport Group (CAG), this “multi-year” expansion project will increase T2’s handling capacity and renew the facilities and amenities inside the terminal. CAG said the expansion project will add 15,500 sqm to the terminal building and further increase Changi Airport’s capacity by five million passengers a year, which will bring the airport’s total capacity to 90 million passengers a year when the project is completed in around 2024. Changi Airport’s Terminal 4, which began operations in October 2017, has already been equipped with automated systems for check-in, bag-drop, immigration and boarding procedures. Business Traveller Asia-Pacific previously reviewed the airport’s automated departure procedures there. CAG added that the existing rows of check-in counters will also be transformed “to better serve passengers”, and the overall passenger handling capacity in the hall will be increased by as much as 20 per cent. The expansion and renovation works will begin with check-in rows 9 to 12 in the Departure Hall. Some airlines operating in T2 will be shifted to alternative check-in rows within the terminal during the course of works. The two flight information display flip boards will also be retired, with the one between check-in rows 9 and 10 to be decommissioned next month. The existing ceiling will be replaced with a new 3D curved feature ceiling that “resembles a large garden pergola”. New plant species, green feature columns and overhanging or suspended green formations will also be added. The renovation will also see a new duplex F&B concept introduced at the north end of T2’s landside leading to Jewel Changi Airport, a mixed-use complex that opened in April last year and has an indoor garden and a variety of shopping, dining and entertainment options.
