Hey students, families, & friends. Here is chapter 16 of Everfound by Neal Shusterman with permission from Simon & Schuster. In this chapter, we learn about how Jill formed an opinion about herself as a "bad girl" because that's what everyone always called her her whole life. Everyone said she was bad so what else could she be? When Jix reframes Jill as a "huntress" and tells her she could be great if she redirected her "bad girl" tendencies toward a nobler path, Jill begins to see herself differently, though. Viewing the qualities in herself that others had labeled as "bad" as a strength begins to make Jill see herself differently. If her strong will and focused determination could be reframed as a strength, could she channel that strength into accomplishing something she really believes in? Has someone ever reframed one of your insecurities or shortcomings as a strength? If so, how did changing your perspective on something you previously saw as a limitation as a superpower affect your self image? Are there any qualities about yourself that you've viewed as shortcomings or pitfalls that you could reframe into superpowers? For instance, maybe if you've been called bossy, you could reframe that as being a strong leader; or maybe if you've been called overly sensitive, you could reframe that as being committed to justice. How does viewing your biggest shortcomings as your greatest potential for strength and superpower open new doors for you?
