This restorative yoga class offers a gentle yoga sequence with your yoga bolster to access your parasympathetic nervous system to rest and digest and come into an alpha state. By coming into still and restorative yoga postures we support our parasympathetic nervous system and bring our mind into an alpha state. These practices are incredibly healing and necessary in a culture which normally pressures us to strive and achieve. Letting go of doing through nourishing practices like the restorative yoga we are doing today allows your mind to drop into an alpha state which is relaxed, yet focused and receptive. Throughout our normal daily activity we are normally in a beta brain wave cycle which is associated with stress, anxiety, over thinking and our mind becomes pre-conditioned to react negatively. Beta frequency is also related to hypertension, increased heart rate, increased blood flow, cortisone production and glucose consumption. This week’s free one hour yoga class is a restorative yoga class focused on the tenth and eleventh lines of the Ayur Dehi Mantra. The lines are pratishtham dehi and mam dehi. The words mean May I rest in that nourishment and May I be nourished. Our entire focus in this class will be on letting go of doing and focusing on being. By coming into still and restorative yoga postures we support our parasympathetic nervous system and bring our mind into an alpha state.
