What if the reason we keep going backwards in life is because we keep getting the order wrong? In Remember & Obey, Pastor Ben Miller remind us that order matters (like learning to drive a stick shift). When we skip relationship and rush straight to “God, bless me,” we can end up stalled, frustrated, and sliding backwards. But when relationship with Him comes first, blessing flows from the Father’s heart. This message is a call back to the foundation: God desires relationship with you and with me, and it's from this relationship that blessings flow. We don’t demand blessing. We receive it as God initiates it, and we respond with gratitude, praise, and obedience. Pastor Ben also unpacks a powerful biblical pattern seen throughout Scripture using three Hebrew words: Barak (bless) Yarash (possess) Yashab (dwell, remain) God initiates blessing and promise. We respond with faith and obedience. God leads us into possessing the promise. Then God calls us to dwell in it, and we stay there by remembering and continually obeying. When we remember and obey, God initiates another blessing. If you’ve been believing God for breakthrough, freedom, provision, rest, or direction...then this message will help you take the next step with the right order: Seek His face before you seek His hand, remember what He’s done, and walk in obedience so you can live in the blessing that He’s already provided. 📖 Scriptures Shared: Ephesians 1:3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Genesis 1:27-28 God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.” Joshua 1:2-3 “The time has come for you [Joshua] to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them. I promise you what I promised Moses: ‘Wherever you set foot, you will be on land I have given you.’” Joshua 1:5 “No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you.” Joshua 1:7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do.” Joshua 22:4-6 “So go back home …But be very careful to obey all the commands and the instructions that Moses gave to you. Love the Lord your God, walk in all his ways, obey his commands, hold firmly to him, and serve him with all your heart and all your soul.” So Joshua blessed them and sent them away, and they went home. Joshua 24:31 The people of Israel served the Lord throughout the lifetime of Joshua and of the elders who outlived him - those who had personally experienced all that the Lord had done for Israel. Deuteronomy 8 (summary) God repeatedly warns His people: when you step into blessing, do not forget the Lord. Remember where you came from, remember what He did, and stay obedient so you don’t drift back into bondage. 💡 Key Takeaway: Blessing flows from relationship. God initiates. We respond with faith, courage, and obedience. We stay in the blessing by remembering what He’s done and continuing to obey. 🎯 Call to Action: Take 10 minutes this week to “remember.” Write down specific ways God has provided, healed, restored, protected, or carried you. Share 1 story with someone, and then ask the Holy Spirit for 1 next step of obedience so you can dwell in what God has already done. 📲 If this message encouraged you, share it with someone who needs a reset, and leave a comment about what you’re choosing to remember. 🔔 Subscribe to Joy Church Bend and turn on notifications so you don’t miss new messages. 📍 Join us in Bend, Oregon or online each week.
