Have you ever felt uncomfortable when someone calls Hindu prayer "idol worship"? There's a reason for that — and it goes much deeper than you think. 🔍 WHAT THIS VIDEO IS ABOUT In this video, we explore the true history of the phrase "idol worship," why it was never a neutral description of Hindu practices, and what Hindus are actually doing when we pray to physical forms of God. 📖 THE HISTORY This video traces the origins of the word "idol" all the way back to the Hebrew Bible and the Ten Commandments — where images used in prayer were described using Hebrew words meaning "pellets of dung" and "meaningless gods." From there, we follow how Islamic and British colonial conquest brought this Abrahamic framework to India, and how ethnocentrism led to an entire civilisation being judged through someone else's moral lens. 🕉️ THE HINDU PHILOSOPHY We then dive deep into Hindu philosophy to understand what murti puja actually is. From the concept of Brahman — the all-pervading consciousness that is both the creator and the created — to the difference between Nirguna Brahman and Saguna Brahman, to the devis and devatas like Krishna, Kali Amma, Ganesha and Hanuman. We explore Bhakti Yoga, the path of devotion, and the sacred process of prana pratishtha — the ancient Vedic ritual through which a vigraham is consecrated and a deity's energy is invoked into physical form. This is not idol worship. This is murti puja. And the difference between those two phrases carries 1000 years of history, colonisation, and shame. ✨ BY THE END OF THIS VIDEO YOU WILL UNDERSTAND: 🔸 Why the word "idol" was never a neutral description of Hindu prayer 🔸 How colonisation shaped the way Hindus see their own practices 🔸 What Brahman is and why the Hindu concept of God is fundamentally different to the Abrahamic concept 🔸 The difference between a murti and a vigraham 🔸 What prana pratishtha is and why it matters 🔸 Why language matters and how reclaiming indigenous terms like murti and vigraham restores dignity to an entire culture Whether you are Hindu, curious about Hinduism, or simply someone who believes in religious freedom — this video is for you. 🌏 🔔 SUBSCRIBE for weekly videos on Hindu philosophy, Sanatana Dharma, spiritual practices, and Hinduism 101. 👇 DROP A COMMENT BELOW — do you use the word "idol worship"?
