FG launches renewed hope conditional cash transfer for 15 million households

To commemorate the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, the federal government has launched the renewed hope conditional cash transfer for fifteen (15) million households across the country. President Bola Tinubu who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the federation, Senator George Akume at the launch held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, assured Nigerians of the administration’s commitment to restructure the humanitarian affairs and poverty alleviation ministry with a 7-Year roadmap to tackle food security, end hunger, eradicate poverty, drive economic growth and create jobs. The President who pledged investment of 75 billion naira to support small and medium enterprises and startups said his government will lead from the front in seeking to ensure that all Nigerians have decent opportunities for dignified work and sustained social protection. The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu reiterated the resolve of President Tinubu to pull Nigerians out of poverty while mitigating humanitarian crises across Nigeria. She said the conditional cash transfer of seventy five thousand (75,000) naira will reach about 61 million Nigerians. On his part, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating minister of the economy, Wale Edun said President Tinubu is committed to aggressively alleviate poverty through many economic empowerment initiatives. World Bank Country Director in Nigeria, Shubham Chaudhuri said they are happy to provide finance for the various measures of President Tinubu’s poverty alleviation efforts to help support in cushioning the effect of fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians. Among the first set of beneficiaries are Larai Suleiman, Shuaibu Hassana, Sariki Bala Gamu, Okor Jonah and Hameed Isiaka. October 17th presents an opportunity to acknowledge the effort and struggle of people living in poverty, a chance for them to make their concerns heard, and a moment to recognize that poor people are the first ones to fight against poverty.
