Baidoa is a Somali city in South West State that currently hosts more than 360,000 displaced people, many of whom live on private lands without secure tenure agreements, sprawled across 435 sites. The spiking demand for land has put pressure on these settlements and many of the IDPs are now at risk of eviction. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) partnered with the Baidoa Municipality, the South West State authorities, and humanitarian partners to develop a public site for 4,000 vulnerable IDPs to live without fear of eviction. This video documents the site development, the first phase of the relocation which began in July 2019, and the impact the project has made to the IDPs of Baidoa. The project was made possible through the generous funding from the Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA), The UK's Department for International Development (DFID), the European Union of Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), the Government of Germany, and the Government of Japan (JSB).
