While on vacation I started learning the ways of MML2VGM, finally. This compiler is going to be the one I'll be focussing on for the next while, since it supports a very large selection of chips, and it has some very interesting features to help music creation while still allowing for the similar workflow I've been used to with other MML compilers. Though some of the commands still take me a while to get used to, I have found working on this particular track not to be too difficult. The Pokemon Trading Card Game soundtrack is literally one of my all time favourite soundtracks ever, and I knew I had to make a cover of at least one of the tracks one day. I felt like using the SN76489 for the arrangement for the hypothetical scenario of if the pokemon TCG was ever ported to the Sega Game Gear. Of course that would never happen, but it's fun to imagine things like that happening. I also specifically picked this track so that it would fit into the bounds of the SN76489. For those who don't know, this chip doesn't allow you to go very low, meaning that you have to very often play higher notes to substitute for lower ones in the bass area. The only exception to this is the repeated noise which is used by linking the last two channels together, allowing the noise channel to play notes outside the very limited range of just three pitches it can play by default. I am always happy to provide the source for this if anyone needs it. I am very slowly but surely working on guides that explain all the important commands for the MML compilers I have used over the years, which I'm hoping to eventually put somewhere. At the moment only the PPMCK and Husic guides are fully complete, the NSD Lib guide is in progress. If you are interested in any of these topics, please let me know in the comments and I can send you the guides or clarify any information. I might do one or two more game gear style arrangements before moving on to other chips, at least publically. MML2VGM is a vast thing so it'll take me quite a long time to make things that are worth publishing on Youtube. Until then, stay tuned, and thanks for watching!
