One of the most common issues on Brilliant Directories sites is members skipping the address search bar and typing their address manually into the fields below. When they do that, the address may not geocode properly, and their listing can miss out on location-based searches. In this tutorial, I’ll show you a simple workaround using prompts and read-only fields so members are guided to use the address search bar correctly. Need hands-on help? Type your address and select it from the options provided.” ✅ Save and preview to confirm it displays clearly Improve the placeholder text on the address search bar ✅ Go to Settings → Text Labels (open in a new tab if helpful) ✅ Search for the existing placeholder text (for example, “Enter a location”) ✅ Change it to something more direct, for example: “Type your address here…” ✅ Save and refresh the member page to confirm the new placeholder shows Stop members bypassing the search bar ✅ Go back to Form Manager and return to the address fields ✅ For Address Line 1, remove “optional” placeholder text if shown ✅ Add the CSS class: readonly ✅ Repeat for Address Line 2, City/Town, and Postcode Note ✅ State and Country are often auto-assigned anyway, so you may not need to set those manually ✅ In the help text for Address Line 1, Address Line 2, City/Town, and Postcode, add a consistent message, for example: “These fields are automatically assigned based on the location you input above the map.” ✅ Save and preview to confirm the fields can’t be manually typed into Enforce geocoding by making postcode required ✅ Find the Postcode / Zip Code field in the form ✅ Set it to Required ✅ Save and refresh the member page ✅ Confirm you see the required indicator on postcode Why this works ✅ If the member must have a postcode to save the form, and postcode is only populated when they use the search bar, it forces correct address selection and geocoding Tips ✅ Make the instruction banner impossible to miss (short, clear, near the search bar) ✅ Use the placeholder text to demonstrate what “good” looks like (a realistic address example works well) ✅ Keep the manual fields read-only so the search bar is the only path ✅ If you only cover one country, hide the Country field to reduce overwhelm ✅ Consider hiding Address Line 2 if most members don’t need it ✅ In the UK, City/Town and Postcode are usually more useful than County/State ✅ Keep the form as simple as possible — fewer fields usually means better completion rates #BrilliantDirectories #MembershipWebsite #DirectoryWebsite #LocalSEO #UserExperience #NoCode #WebDesign #WebsiteTips #BrilliantDirectoriesTutorial #Geocoding
