World Habitat Awards 2026 - The Platform For Social Housing Czech Republic [Gold Award]

The Platform for Social Housing is changing how the Czech Republic understands and responds to homelessness. Rather than treating it as an individual failure, the Platform shows it is a systemic issue that can be solved through better housing policy and practice.  By combining lived experience, practical expertise and trusted evidence, the Platform has become a leading voice for change. It launched the country’s first Housing First pilot and has since played a key role in expanding this approach across 20 cities. Working closely with municipalities, housing providers, frontline workers and its members, it supports housing-led solutions through accredited training, guidance and helps securing funding.  At the national level, the Platform has helped shape the new Social Housing Act, landmark legislation designed to prevent homelessness before it starts. It holds government to account for delivering on these commitments, advocating for affordable, stable homes, fair social benefits and stronger protections for tenants.  Standing up for people who are often excluded is central to its mission. The Platform challenges discriminatory housing practices and ensures that marginalised communities are represented in policy discussions.  By bringing together civil society and public institutions, the Platform has helped shift the focus away from temporary shelters towards long-term, secure housing. Its work shows how collective action, clear evidence and strong partnerships can deliver lasting change — offering a credible path towards a Czech Republic where everyone has a safe a secure home.
