Amanda Smith has spent over two decades painting sets for theater, theme parks, and film. But in 2022, something shifted. After becoming a Certified California Naturalist, Amanda launched Los Angeles Is Not A Desert, an ecological art and writing project challenging one of the most persistent myths about the city. She also co-founded the IATSE Local 729 Set Painters and Sign Writers Sustainability Committee, working from inside her union to change how paint departments handle waste on production.
