The goal of this patch was to explore the sonic combination of the Moog Matriarch and Arturia Matrixbrute while experimenting with combining generative, sequenced, and improvised melodies. Matrixbrute in duo-split mode. Lower voice is playing a sequence while the upper two voices are playing a generative melody VCO 1&2 are sawtooth receiving Ultrasaw modulation from LFO2. Routed into VCF1 Steiner in 24dB/Oct Lowpass mode. VCO 3 is sine. Routed into VCF2 Ladder in 12dB/Oct Lowpass mode. M1 controls VCO 1&2 level M2 controls VCO 1&2 transposition Modwheel controls generative melody note change probability Built in stereo delay set to 60% wet with lots of regeneration to create swells and trails I wanted lots of movement and texture in the Matrixbrute's voices so there's lots of drive and feedback on the lower voice. The upper voices are cleaner but have deeper cutoff modulation so they can fade in and out. VCF1 Steiner receives modulation from LFO2, keyboard / seq, and an attenuated external LFO from roland system 1m in stepped random mode VCF2 Ladder receives modulation from VCO 3 at audio rate and LFO3 subdivided, and LFO2 I experimented a lot with different ways to create a distinct amplitude envelope for the upper voices. I ended up modulating ENV2 sustain level with the same LFO1 sawtooth signal which is used for the generative melody clock. There are a few different ways to create this effect with varying degrees of definition, especially when the filter envelope is also modulated, but I liked the legato-ish sound this parameter gave. Generative Melody details: LFO1 in tempo sync mode with rhythmic subdivision modulated by LFO2, plays quarter notes by default but modulates between half notes and eighth notes too. LFO1 set to falling sawtooth wave is output from VCO1 PW jack via CV. This Sawtooth LFO1 signal acts as a clock or tempo synced trigger for a 2HP Turing Machine module. 2HP TM is playing a 16 step sequence triggered by LFO1, each time it receives the rising edge of the Sawtooth LFO it has a chance to output a random voltage for the active sequence step. Probability of random voltage change is controlled by the mod wheel from VCO1 Metalizer output jack via CV, fully up = 100% random, fully down = locked pattern. Output of 2HP TM connected to the X input of a Disting MK.4 in H-8 Quantizer 2 Mode. Quantizer set to play Harmonic Minor scale in the Key of D. Disting MK. 4 assumes 0V = C as oscillator starting pitch so to keep the generative melody in the right key the upper voices have to be triggered with a C key on the keyboard despite the music being in D. VCO 1&2 Receive V/Oct pitch CV from Disting MK. 4 Is VCO1 pitch CV input jack. This input is normalled to VCO2's pitch input as well so you only need to patch the first oscillator. Matriarch set to 4 voice paraphonic mode. All 4 oscillators are set to square waves with pulse width modulated by LFO. Oscillators are overdriven at the mixer for lots of crunch and harmonics. Filters in true stereo LP/LP mode with 50% resonance for each. Triangle LFO controls all the stereo movement in the patch via both filter and VCA. The triangle LFO signal is sent to a multiple and split into two copies, one is sent to an attenuverter and inverted into a mirrored copy of the original signal. The original signal is patched to VCF1 cutoff and the mirrored copy is patched to VCF2 cutoff creating an alternating relationship where as one filter closes the other opens and a stereo panning effect is achieved. This is further enhanced by sending an additional copy of the triangle LFO signal to the VCA, I meant to patch both sides with the same mirrored signal but forgot the right side sadly. Stereo delay receives clock from the Matrixbrute via midi. I found with both sync and pingpong mode on there was an interesting lo-fi effect which i experimented with.
