Three most beautiful classical piano pieces about the moon. (Btw, I think most people know that Beethoven did not call the Sonata quasi una fantasia Op.27 No.2 "Moonlight" Sonata. Nevertheless, the fact that someone first likened it to moonlight, and it is known worldwide as "Moonlight Sonata", means it is "about the moon". Most pupils studying music beyond the 5th Grade know how the nickname came about. :-) My own "Contemplation No. 1, Moonbeam", was similarly not written initially about the moon, but I decided to call it "Moonbean" as an indication of how it should be played. So, I think that makes it too about the moon. :-) In fact, most of my pieces are named that way. I am not sure, however, how many people know that Debussy's Clair de lune was itself originally called "Promenade Sentimentale". ;-) It is the 3rd movement of his Suite Bergamasque, as we all know. The Suite had been written around 1890, but was published years later in 1905 after several revisions, we are told, when the names of some of the movements were changed.) 00:15 Debussy - Clair de lune (from Suite Bergamasque) 05:44 M A King - Moonbeam (No.1 of "Six Contemplations") 11:19 Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata (Movement No.1) [Disclosure: NB.
