What if the words we hear every day shape not only what we think, but how safe we feel in the world? Drawing on a deeply personal memory from the COVID-19 pandemic, this talk explores the quiet yet powerful influence language has over our emotions, beliefs, and sense of reality. Through the contrast between alarming headlines and the reassuring words spoken at home, the speaker reveals how language can either amplify fear or create islands of calm and hope. Framing words as seeds that grow into fear or love depending on how they are used, the talk invites the audience to become more conscious of the language they consume and share. At its heart, this is a call for responsibility, empathy, and care in a world flooded with voices—reminding us that every sentence we speak has the power to change someone’s world. Theo, aged 11, is a proud student at Questfield International College. He deeply loves his school, his teachers, and his classmates. Sensitive yet strong, Theo is determined to see every task through to the end. He is highly responsible and dedicated to every project he takes part in. A passionate lover of animals, sports, and music, Theo plays the piano and often performs in concerts. He is also a registered member of a football club and actively participates in various sports competitions. For Theo, being part of TEDx Questfield Intl College Youth is more than just an event — it’s a unique and inspiring experience that helps him grow and prepare for his next big challenge: MUN 2026. Theo believes that every experience shapes who we become — and today, he’s here to share a part of his journey with all of us This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
