Singer Angie Stone, known for her hit Wish I Didn’t Miss You, has died at the age of 63, March 1, 2025. Stone has been a founding member of groundbreaking female hip-hop trio the Sequence in the late 70s at the age of 16. They scored a hit with Funk You Up, a song that was later sampled by Dr Dre for his single Keep Their Heads Ringin and Bruno Mars in Uptown Funk. (The Guardian, March 1, 2025) We remember Angie by her great performance at the North Sea Jazz Festival 2000. We already published her performance of 2000 and 2002 and now also publish her most recent concert at North Sea Jazz 2008. R.I.P Angie Stone Date & venue: FRIDAY 11 JULY 2008 • NILE • Rotterdam Ahoy, The Netherlands LINEUP Angie Stone (vocals); Travis Sayles (musical director, keyboards); Jonathan Richmond (backing vocals, keyboards); Sharay Roby, Ashley Washington (backing vocals); Michael Severson (guitar); Le Shawn Thomas (bass); John Wesley McVicker Jr. (drums). ABOUT this concert in 2008: In the summer of '93, Angie Stone had a hit with the group Vertical Hold and as a solo artist she released acclaimed albums like Black Diamond, Mahogany Soul and Stone Love. Many respected stars often have their biggest successes far behind them, but not Angie Stone: she only hit the jackpot at the end of last year with the album The Art of Love & War. It was her first album to reach the no.1 position in the Billboard R&B/Hip-hop chart. Stone made this album in a dramatic location: Marvin's Room, the former studio of soul legend Marvin Gaye on Sunset Boulevard. The singer was also one of the chosen few who were asked to debut on Stax Records when it rose from its ashes. Ninety percent of the songs on Stone's new album are her own work. The soul diva composes her songs on the piano, an instrument she taught herself to play. In her 15-year-old career she also developed an exciting and charismatic stage presence.
