Growing up in the Inland Empire as a boy and teenager Chuck Street had 2 major influences in his life. The first was a television show called The Whirlybirds. The second was San Bernardino radio station K/MEN 129. The combination set the course for his entire life. He got his first break hanging around K/MEN. A few years he got a job driving a truck for Western Helicopter in Rialto. Fast forward a few years. He had bought his own small helicopter without really thinking things through. He could not find a plan to make a living with the helicopter. Before too long he found himself a couple of months behind in his rent, and owned a helicopter with no work for it. Life could have been going better. One day he was thunderstruck with inspiration. He came up with the idea of flying his helicopter and use his radio skills to report traffic. K/MEN did not have a job opening for a traffic helicopter, or the budget for one, so Chuck decided to shoot for the moon. The #2 radio market was LA, where he lived close to. Chuck decided he might as well tryout for the #1 radio show at the time which was Rick Dees at KIIS FM. It was an almost impossible dream, but Chuck came up with an all or nothing plan to get a job from someone who had no idea who he even was. His plan had 2 possible results. Best case, he could get the job. Worst case, he would lose his apartment, helicopter, and his pilot’s license. He literally put everything on the line. In the video Chuck tells the whole story, including Rick Dees on air reaction, and what happened when the dust settled. It may be the most unique successful job interview of all time.
