"Good Morning" (1959) directed by Yasujirō Ozu is a good first film to watch for those looking to start unpacking the filmography of the great Japanese director Ozu. Many might suggest "Tokyo Story" but the lighthearted comedy "Good Morning" while maybe seeming silly at first also displays the technical and thematic filmmaking brilliance of the great director. "Good Morning" is a movie that uses sitcom humor to discuss important themes and ask interesting questions about society. This was my first Ozu film and since I'm traveling through Japan at the moment I thought it was about time to tackle one of the great masters of Japanese cinema.
