Powderhorn was originally installed in 1977 by Thiokol in a different alignment, with the bottom terminal at the base of Solitude Village next to former sister Apex built in 1989. In 2009, Powderhorn got removed and was cobbled together with parts from Apex while being relocated to The Canyons (now Park City) as Flat Iron. The quad chair it replaced actually ran as Moonbeam a terrain area over, and ran for only 3 years. After its removal with a better high speed quad, it was another year before it got reinstalled as Powderhorn II in a different alignment. Unlike Powderhorn, Powderhorn II’s bottom terminal sits next to the Roundhouse Lodge following its path up to where old Powderhorn unloaded. I have a bit mixed feelings about the new alignment. While it provides direct lappable access to some advanced trails, other trails that used to be lappable like Milk Run and Powderhorn Cirque now requires a ride up Apex combined with this lift. Overall though, it is doing the job well and I don’t see this lift going anywhere for I think around 10 or more years although its status as a fixed grip might feel annoying.
