** Note: Video speed is halved for ease of viewing, in field, action is twice fast!!! ** This video is part of a series of videos on "Indian Pelagic Birds" taken during various pelagic/offshore trips organized by keralabirder, Malabar Natural History Society and SA Hussain Memorial Trust, many with the help of Dept of Fisheries, Kerala. The trips have been conducted mainly from Kannur and Mangalore in the South-West coast of India. The main intention here is to show the birds and their behavior, and provide a basic reference for pelagic bird recognition from Indian coast. Persian Shearwater are supposedly passage migrants in the south-west coast of India. They have been seen only during April. During that time, they had been seen in small groups of up to 20-25 birds. They are smaller than the common Flesh-footed Shearwaters, note the underwing and axillaries in the video which differentiates it from the Audubon's Shearwaters. They are known as "Mathi-Kakka" (meaning Sardine Crow) among the fishermen in Kerala as they are found around Sardines. Footage date - 3rd April, 2011 Music Credits (sorry, had missed to include in the clip) - Album: Music from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston Title: Clarinet Quintet in A Major, K. 581 Authors: Musicians from Marlboro Composer: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Comment: Recorded live in the Tapestry Room of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston. There is no copyright on this video (except for music) and anyone is free to make use of the visual contents :-)
