This song was inspired by a beautiful story shared with me by my dear former boss, Ms. Karen Thomson, about a small circle of four women who call themselves the Four Medieval Maidens. They came together in their later years, when life slowed down just enough to make room for deeper friendship. They gather to talk about life, cook together, play games, travel, and simply enjoy the gift of being there for one another. As I listened, I pictured them as the four directions—North, South, East, and West. Each woman different, yet perfectly complementing the others. Like true friends, they guide each other through joy, loss, change, and new beginnings. This song is written as if the four women are singing together in harmony—North with courage, South with kindness, East with hope, West with wisdom—walking forward with faith as shown by their compass. I hope when you hear Four Directions Home, you’ll think about your own friends—the ones who helped you find your way, no matter when you met them.
