I spent two days in February skiing at Banff Sunshine Village in Banff, Alberta, and the first day turned out to be the windiest ski day I’ve ever experienced on the mountain! Despite the wild wind conditions, I still managed to explore different areas of the resort and challenged myself on a few steep black runs of the two days I was there. At one point I stopped into the shop to compare my current goggles (Anon — not sure which model) with the Smith Optics 4D Mag goggles. I filmed a quick comparison looking out the window through both lenses to see if the Smith lenses really provided better contrast. After looking back at the footage, I actually think the Smith 4D Mag might show a bit more definition in the snow. If you’ve skied with the Smith 4D Mag goggles before, do you think they’re worth upgrading to? Let me know in the comments! Later that day I found myself venturing onto a steep, narrow, bumpy, and pretty hard-packed black run. Another skier and I ended up there together and we basically hyped each other up the whole way down. It wasn’t pretty, but I used every skill I had — side slipping, careful turns, and a lot of focus — and I made it down. It was terrifying in the moment but I kinda wanna do it again! After that effort I decided I had earned a beer, so I stopped at St. James's Gate Irish Pub (https://stjamesgatebanff.com/) for dinner, some stew, and my favourite: a Guinness. Day two was way less windy and I met up with someone I knew for some laps around the mountain. It was my first time riding the Goat’s Eye lift, and there was lots of snow blown off the top but we checked out a really fun blue run off that area. We also ended up doing a very narrow and bumpy tree run that was definitely challenging — but I made it through. Later in the afternoon, after a quick refuel break, I decided to challenge myself again with another steep black run off of the Super Angel chair. It was a bit hard-packed with some snow blown off by the wind, but I managed to make it down and wrap up the trip on a high note before heading back to Edmonton. As an intermediate skier, I’m still working on steeper terrain, bumps, and tighter runs, so this trip was a mix of pushing my limits and enjoying some great laps at Sunshine. If you’re dreaming about skiing in the Canadian Rockies at Sunshine Village, Lake Louise, or Marmot Basin, subscribe and follow along — I’ll be exploring them all this season. 0:00 Intro 0:19 Morning of Day 1 5:39 Smith 4D Mag Goggles vs my goggles live comparison 7:13 Banff Sunshine Selfie Station 10:53 Hardest Run of the Day 14:34 Guinness and Stew at St. James’s Gate in Banff 14:39 Morning of Day 2 21:02 Survived a Bumpy Tree Run 23:21 First Ride on Goat’s Eye 26:24 Ending on a high note with a wide black run off Super Angel 28:59 Bye Sunshine, see ya next time! 2025/26 Mountain Days 9 + 10 Location: Banff Sunshine Village, Alberta https://www.skibanff.com/ Check out my Ski Big 3 Trip in Jan 2026! • Bluebird Trifecta!
