Kentucky & Ohio Spring Trains A huge train with a DPU was going past the Mile Post 14.3 defect detector on the Norfolk Southern Rat Hole Line near Florence, Kentucky. I heard the defect detector go off for a critical alarm for a hot box while I was in Erlanger, Ky at Mile Post 10. A hot bearing was detected on axle 500. The train contacted the dispatcher and then stopped with the front of the train sitting around MP 10.5 just barely in my view. I recorded the radio audio after the train stopped. The conductor was going to walk back to check the temperatures of the axles but another railroad employee gave him a ride back to the "Farmers Crossing". The train was a monster train and sat for a few hours. Luckily, they made it from single track where detector is to double track in Elsmere. You will see a loaded grain train cresting the hill in Erlanger with a manned pusher locomotive on the rear. Look at the awesome view of the train diverging from Track 1 to Track 2 to get around the stopped train. You will also see the locomotive return light back down the hill. On my way home to Ohio I noticed two Loram rail grinder trains come into Erlanger. I drove over to the siding where they were shutting down. Due to heavy traffic by the time I got there the second train was just coming to a stop on the siding in Erlanger Yard. Check out the awesome video I made of a rail grinder train in Trenton, Ohio.
