Happy #WorldWildlifeDay2021! Besides being impressive as the largest land animal, elephants serve lots of important functions in the wild, helping to open up forests for other wildlife while distributing seeds in their dung. These important forest engineers ensure ample plant and animal biodiversity that help in the survival of wildlife and forest dependent communities. But snaring and killing of elephants for the #IllegalWidllifeTrade and in retaliation for property damage is severely threatening these giants, as is land conversion for infrastructure and agriculture. We need to protect them so that they can continue to thrive and support the ecosystems on which we all depend.
