Made a typo today in my writing that caused me a surprising amount of introspection, so I decided to share some thoughts on typos (typographical errors). In this Part 1 of 2 I cover the intro, what a typo is and three parts of the writing process where typos can be introduced including writing, editing, and publishing (such as printing). Here is the link to Part 2 of 2, which covers an online publishing/printing typo example, my feelings about typos, and the typo I made that caused me a surprising amount of introspection: • Thoughts on typos (typographical errors) -... . 0:00 - Intro, why I made this video; 0:14 - What is a typo; 1:22 - Example of a spelling typo; 1:49 - Different places in the writing process where typos can occur; 1:55 - Writing (such as handwriting or typing); 2:25 - Editing (analogy of a regrade in schoolwork, some typos are caught, some can be introduced during editing similar to how students can gain or lose points or get the same score during a regrade); 4:42 - Publishing (including printing) with examples; (I) - 5:42 - Printing typo example of a printer malfunctioning and printing text different than what is in the document on the computer; (II) - 6:50 - Note on machines not being infallible with a teaching example of technology used for taking attendance in a course counting people who are physically present as absent and counting people were not in attendance as present; (III) - 8:05 - Analogous to typos (some typos are removed during the writing process and some are added), technology glitches tend to go both ways, work experience example of some people getting overpaid and some getting underpaid; (IV) - 9:39 - Printing press typos.
