The hollow O profile is a low closure force, easy to install sealing solution for many static applications. Hollow O profile has a compressive force of a lower durometer material and physical property of a higher durometer material. Therefore, the seals with hollow O cross sections can reduce bolt loading and the stress exerted on the mating flanges. The compressive force can be easily adjusted by changing the wall thickness of the profile without lowering the material hardness. Parker designs and manufactures the hollow O profile in standard series and friction-fit series. Friction fit means that the groove is slighter undersized from the seal cross section; therefore, the friction-fit hollow O profile is easy to install and can retain itself inside the groove. The friction-fit series are engineered to achieve self-retention as well as to reduce the chance of gland overfill. The hollow O profile is available in cord stock, spooled footage, spliced hollow O-ring and spliced hollow O gasket. Typical applications of hollow O products include enclosure applications and static applications that require environmental sealing. Hollow O-rings are an economical alternative to molded products. Parker can produce extremely large O-rings that are too costly to be molded. Hollow O-rings' dimensions can also be easily customized at no tooling cost, giving engineers more design flexibility.
