507001 visits Alstom Test Track for the first time

An important milestone was reached for the Class 507 Preservation Society on 13th June 2025, when 507001 visited the test track at Alstom's Litchurch Lane works for the first time. Its shoes were unstrapped and placed in contact with the third rail for the first time since it left Birkenhead North in January 2025. This visit was just a static test, to allow the batteries to be charged and give on-board systems to run. We hope in the near future that this will pave the way for 507001 to run under its own power on the test track. This video depicts some of the Fitness to Run exam that took place on 12th June, followed by some scenes of 001 on the test track the following day. This video was produced by the Class 507 Preservation Society, which was founded in 2024 to preserve former Merseyrail unit 507001.
