Dame la Mano Palomba -Ladino Sephardic Cantiga Arleen Ramirez - BorikenSpharad Ladino Music Project IG - @arleenelyshevamusic FB - ELYSHEVArleen Website - www.arleenramirez.com The song “Dame la Mano Paloma” has become a strong representative of the Puerto Rican folclore . This song, is an essential piece in the repertoire of the seasonal Puerto Rican “parrandas” (christmas carols in Puerto Rico), and its lyrics have been attributed to Puerto Rican folk music singers Luis Morales Ramos, José Nogueras, and Roque Navarro. However, the truth is that the lyrics of this song were not written by any of the above. This song have its roots in the centenary melancholic Judeo-Spanish cantiga “La Serena” later “Dame la Mano Palomba”. The Spharadi or Judeo-Spanish heritage in our island of Puerto Rico has been passed from generation to generation through our music, food, language, and oral tradition, and it is very present even until today. Many Puerto Ricans as well as, many Hispanics in general, know about this part of our history. However, there are still many people who ignore this interesting historical facts. I hope that learning about this brings you as much joy as it has brought me. This are melodies that I personally was used to listen to through my grandmother’s singing and it has been an incalculable blessing to my life to get to reconnect to the music of my ancestors.
