VENICE, CA — Tuesday, March 17, 2026 — Los Angeles police officers assigned to the Homeless Coordinated Outreach Unit, operating out of the department’s Operations Downtown Bureau, conducted foot patrols along Rose Avenue Tuesday morning, distributing informational flyers to individuals living in encampments and advising them of rules governing public spaces. The outreach activity coincided with a previously posted “Notice of Major Cleaning,” which had scheduled a cleanup for 6:00 a.m. along the corridor between Main Street and Hampton Drive. According to personnel on scene, the planned multi-agency cleanup did not take place as scheduled, with crews reportedly diverted to address a separate incident involving a burned recreational vehicle elsewhere. Despite the absence of a full cleanup operation, members of the Venice Beach BID Safety Team and Clean Team were present along Rose Avenue. Safety Team personnel advised individuals to maintain adequate sidewalk clearance to meet accessibility requirements, including sufficient space for wheelchair passage. Clean Team crews collected loose trash and debris from the area before later conducting steam cleaning and pressure washing along portions of the sidewalk. Officers were observed walking from encampment to encampment, handing out printed notices outlining applicable municipal regulations and providing general guidance. According to the flyer distributed, individuals were advised that storing personal property on sidewalks or in public rights-of-way is prohibited when it obstructs access or creates health and safety concerns. The notice also emphasized the requirement to maintain clear pedestrian pathways, warned that unattended items may be subject to removal, and referenced enforcement under Los Angeles Municipal Code §56.11. The flyer further advised that hazardous materials—such as batteries, propane tanks, and flammable items—may be confiscated for safety reasons. The outreach appeared focused on education and advance notice ahead of future enforcement or a rescheduled cleanup. No enforcement actions or arrests were observed during the outreach.
