NOVALIS FESTIVAL Kulturni centar Osijek, Croatia, 9.10.2021 "Basse pressioni dell’atmosfera" Composer - Carmen Fizzarotti Performer - Ana Batinica, bass flute About work: Basse pressioni dell’atmosfera for solo bass flute has been composed in southern Italy during this summer whose scorching heat lasted for months. It never rained even for a moment and, as Saramago wrote in The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis: “Time drags itself like a slow, viscous wave, a paste of liquid glass on the surface of which there are myriads of sparkles that attract our sight but offset meaning, while in depth the tawny, unsettling core, the very source of movement appears. This is how days and nights follow each other, under the great heat that alternately descends from the sky and radiates from the earth.” The initial “Forte, esplosivo e drammatico (strong, explosive and dramatic)” gesture is followed by small thrown seeds that bring with them some trails.
