I was on an Indonesian bus ride from hell. I nearly got off. Sumatra.

Today on a whim I decided to travel by ferry and local bus from Lake Toba to Berastagi which turned out to be a great decision as I met a German expat named Michael who finds himself running a hotel on lake Toba when he wasn't meant to be. Michael recounts his story. The day involved lots of busses and I find myself having to navigate through parts of Indonesia not too many westerners travel these days. One bus in particular was quite dangerous as the driver had a need for speed and I wondered at one point if I should get off the bus. Finally I make it to my destination of Berastagi after meeting some lovely people who help me along the way. Without a hotel booked, I have to look for something in the centre of Berastagi which turns out quite well with a hotel in the middle of town with everything I need. It was a great long day of travel.
