Various coast line STORYLINE Between 200 and 300 bodies were found on Saturday along the coast in the city of Sendai, north-eastern Japan, the area near the epicentre of the massive earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan on Friday. Japan launched a massive military rescue operation on Saturday after the giant, quake-fed tsunami killed hundreds of people and turned the northeastern coast into a swampy wasteland, while authorities braced for a possible meltdown at a nuclear reactor. The official death toll more than 24 hours after the 8.9-magnitude earthquake and the tsunami it spwaned stood at 413, while 784 people were missing and 1,128 injured. Aerial footage showed an industrial complex in Sendai on fire, submerged houses, stranded ships and the local airport surrounded by murky waters. Smashed cars and small airplanes were jumbled up against buildings near the local airport, several miles (kilometres) from the shore. #sendai #japan #earthquake #epicenter #tsunami You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/you...
