Banana Pi BPI-AIM7: The SBC for AI & 8K Displays!

The BPI-AIM7 is a new single-board computer that is compatible with Nvidia's Jetson Nano platform. It supposedly offers a decent amount of performance and supports multiple operating systems. The Banana Pi BPI-AIM7 is a new single-board computer, or a compute module to be more exact. This means that the board by itself would likely be quite useless for most users, since it doesn’t come with traditional ports for image output and the like. Consequently, it’s only usable with a fitting carrier board. Tinkerers who are looking to build a compact and flat system can probably make good use of such a compute module in conjunction with a customized carrier board. That being said, the BPI-AIM7 board is equipped with an RK3588 ARM chipset with four Cortex-A76 and four Cortex-A55 cores. The integrated NPU is supposed to accelerate AI applications with up to 6 TOPS. The board supports DisplayPort and HDMI with up to 7680 x 4320 pixels at 60Hz. Cameras can be connected via MIPI-CSI. Moreover, the SBC supports PCIe 3.0 with four lanes, which means that M.2 slots or additional USB ports can be added with a carrier board. PCIe 2.1 with one lane is supported as well, as is one USB 3.0 Gen 1 and three USB 2.0 ports. Rather unsurprising for an SBC, sensors and actuators, which can measure brightness among other things, can be installed via a pin header or directly. PCIe 2.1 with one lane is also supported, as is one USB 3.0 Gen 1 and three USB 2.0. Unsurprisingly for a single-board computer: sensors and actuators, for example for measuring brightness, can be installed via a pin header or directly. Network connections via Gigabit Ethernet are also possible. The Banana Pi board measures approximately 2.7 x 1.8 inches and is equipped with up to 32GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB eMCC storage. Last but not least, the SBC is compatible with Nvidia’s Jetson Nano. An according crowd supply campaign will not just finance the production of the new single-board computer, but also a suitable carrier board.
