I am a nephrologist, a kidney doctor, who believes that our best tool to reduce the burden of kidney disease in the world is not medication, or lab tests, or even research in genetics. Instead, it is the knowledge of kidney disease that can best protect our kidneys. This channel is a part of the kidney disease awareness project on which I have worked for years. It started as long conversations with kidney patients in the office and hospital. During these conversations, I was perplexed to see patients’ lack of knowledge about their kidney disease. To fill this gap, I developed a blog for kidney disease patients, “Kidneyblogs.com,” where patients could find the correct information—and access a nephrologist for kidney-related questions. But then, I realized that not all Urdu and Hindi-speaking patients could read English, and many prefer listening over reading.
