On June 17, 2025, 46-year-old Lazette King was found dead in her Houston apartment after being shot by her longtime partner and ex-fiancé, 48-year-old Michael Ellis. The two had shared a volatile six-year relationship marked by emotional turmoil, breakups, and Michael’s untreated mental illness, including paranoid schizophrenia. Despite the warning signs—including alleged past incidents where Ellis pulled guns on Lazette—she continued trying to make the relationship work, even getting engaged in 2021 before calling it off. Just days before her death, the couple had broken up again, but were still living together. That night, Ellis also shot another man and then sent graphic photos of Lazette’s body to family members before fleeing the scene. He was arrested hours later and charged with murder and unlawful disclosure of intimate visual material. The tragedy echoed a devastating past: in 2001, Lazette’s twin sister, LeZemma, was also killed by a partner, making Lazette’s death a chilling repeat of history nearly 24 years later.
