This webinar introduces the principles of Irrigation Water Management (IWM) and its planning. Topics include: Implementation of irrigation water management plans and how they inform an irrigator’s decisions around how much water to apply and when. The impacts of following the plan, including: saving water, saving energy, reducing nutrient leaching, increase crop yield and quality and maximizing return on investment. Where to find the resources you need to collect the needed data to create each site specific IWM plan. Basic soils information—how much water can it hold and why, as well as how water moves through it and to what depth. Basic application information—how much water is being applied to the field/crop and how quickly. Basic weather information—how much water is leaving the field through the plant or by the sun and how quickly. Basic soil moisture monitoring—options on the market and how it relates to the bigger picture. Basic on-site assessment and where to find additional resources. We’ll finish with a discussion with how to put it together in a way that is easy to understand. Presented by: Jon Culp, Water Resources Program Manager, State Conservation Commission and Harold Crose, Resource Conservationist, Columbia Basin CD
