U.S. public education is facing unprecedented challenges—from book bans and DEI rollbacks to attacks on Critical Race Theory and threats to federal education institutions. At the heart of these assaults lies entrenched Anti-Blackness—a system that continues to marginalize Black students, silence Black educators, and undermine equity-driven teaching. As part of the Dr. Kenneth N. Addison Multicultural Education and Social Justice Lecture for Spring 2025, this panel explores the historical and current manifestations of Anti-Blackness in schools. Drawing on frameworks like Fugitive Pedagogy (Dr. Jarvis Givens 2023), panelists will discuss how Black educators and community leaders have long resisted systemic oppression while examining emerging strategies for reimagining education as a space for Black liberation.
