The move coincides with the 150th anniversary of the song's publication in 1875. Reacting to the mandate, Congress MP Imran Masood stated, 'Vande Mataram was sung Guru Rabindranath Tagore in the Congress convention, and Congress sings it,' suggesting that political attempts to use the song would 'backfire.' The directive addresses historical debates regarding stanzas previously omitted, including those referencing specific deities.
